Introduction
There are times in our lives when we may be ‘confined to quarters’ for a variety of reasons. There might be a well-publicized disease outbreak, that involves a mandatory lockdown.
However, for others, these conditions can occur at other times too. Disease, injury or illness (not necessarily physical) can cause us to feel that we have no option but to remain at home.
For some single parents, this feeling can seem ever-present. Even in traditional family situations, both nuclear and extended, it can mean that one person in the family is greatly responsible for the physical, emotional and spiritual care of the rest.
When our confinement involves other people, it can be even more complicated. Sometimes these ‘others’ can be a lift to the spirit, sometimes
they can be an incredible burden, physically and emotionally.
When we are almost continually caring for the needs of others, often our resilience is stretched to the limit. However, if our own needs are not met, we
will be less able to meet the needs of our loved ones.
This eBook is about the essential need for self-care in times of isolation. It provides strategies and suggestions for helping you take care of yourself – not out of selfishness, but out of respect for yourself and to better assist you with your family responsibilities.
It also has suggestions for extending that care to those you are caring for.
