Introduction
Diabetes and blood sugar levels have a greater public awareness than they ever have. This is due predominantly to the massive increase in diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes.
Once considered an adult disease, and even co-named ‘adult-onset diabetes’, this condition now affects more and more children. As a percentage of population, type 1 diagnoses are also on the increase.
However, blood glucose levels can be a concern for all children, not only confirmed diabetics. While type 1 diabetes is a rapid-onset condition, type 2 is an insidious, creeping disease.
Monitoring of all aspects of children’s lives, including diet, exercise, overall wellness and other factors can help prevent pre-diabetes and diabetes sneaking up on them later.
Also, some children can have episodes of unbalanced blood glucose levels that can affect their health and wellbeing. This report discusses both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, including causes, symptoms and treatments.
